The Psychology of Selling!

Is your for sale?

Is Your Home For Sale, or Not?

During the years I’ve been a stager, I have noticed something about sellers.  They generally fall into two categories: those who are ready to sell and those who aren’t.  I can usually tell within minutes of meeting a seller, which one they fall into.  The sad thing is, buyers can usually tell, too.  If you are planning on selling your home, it’s a good idea to figure out which one you are.

Signing a listing agreement or sticking a sign in your yard does not necessarily mean you are ready to sell.  You have to be ready in your heart and in your head.  How can I tell you aren’t ready?  I am usually hired by your agent, who might be experiencing some frustration with you.  He/she has given you suggestions for preparing your home for the market, and you have chosen to ignore them.  It seems very important to you to convey to buyers the kind of family you are and how you choose to live in this home.  Your personal stamp is everywhere.  The problem with this is buyers see it, too.  The more “you” is in the house, the less they can imagine “them” in the house.  It’s important to remember that whatever made this house your home, you will be taking it with you to the next house.

If you are serious about selling your home, you will eventually have to “let go.”  It’s better for you and better for buyers to do that sooner, than later.
