The Rocky Mountain News, Colorado’s oldest newspaper, will publish its final edition Friday.

The Rocky Mountain News, less than two months away from its 150th anniversary, will be closed after a search for a buyer proved unsuccessful, the E.W. Scripps Co. announced today.

It’s really quite a shame, as I much preferred the News to the Denver Post.  I’m not sure why, but I think it was the smaller format.  It may also be, the News was what I grew up on.

However, I’m not surprised and wonder how long it will take for more “Major” newspapers to go belly up.  Print media has become increasingly less relevant over the past few years, and this trend will continue.

Here is the Rocky’s own obituary.
