Carbon Monoxide – A Silent Killer

February 4, 2009 by Bob Schenkenberger · 1 Comment

One of the largest safety concerns for homeowners (and renters) is Carbon Monoxide (CO)  Recently there have been a couple of high profile deaths in the Denver area, caused by the accidental exposure to CO, sadly these deaths should have been easily prevented.

Carbon Monoxide is colorless, odorless, and in concentrated levels, deadly.

  • CO is produced whenever any fuel such as gas, oil, kerosene, wood, or charcoal is burned.
  • CO can be introduced into living spaces by malfunctioning or improperly used appliances.
  • Hundreds of people die accidentally every year from CO poisoning.
  • Estimates are that only 35% of homeowners have a carbon monoxide detector in their home.
The fact is Carbon Monoxide detectors are inexpensive and save lives.  The Home Safety Council recommends at least one smoke alarm and CO alarm on every level of your home, and near sleaping areas.

If you do nothing else this weekend, make sure you have working smoke and CO alarms in your home.  For less than $50, you can protect your family.

It should be a no brainer!
