Xcel Energy Efficient Rebates for Colorado Residents
January 29, 2009 by Mike Whalen · 9 Comments
Xcel Energy provides electricity and natural gas to the majority of the Denver metropolitan area. The utility company recently announced four rebate programs for residential customers in an effort to decrease energy demand, thereby reducing their costs for production and transmission of electricity and natural gas. The energy efficient program rebates include:
- Gas furnaces and boilers up to $120;
- Gas water heaters up to $100;
- Evaporative coolers (aka swamp coolers) up to $500;
- Addition insulation to your home up to $300.
The size of the rebates varies and there are important dates and conditions to follow. Go to www.xcelenergy.com and look for the program details under Colorado and Residential>Programs & Resources>Heating & Cooling Rebates.
If you are thinking it is time to replace any energy systems in your home it is well worth your time and money to pursue energy efficient appliances and materials. The initial costs may be higher but the expense if typically recaptured in lower operating costs over the life of the appliance. There are also Federal Tax Credits available to homeowners for specific energy efficient improvements to your home. Please contact The Get Home Denver Team for additional information on residential energy efficient rebates and tax credits.

Hi Quyet,
The water heater rebate program is for Xcel gas customers. The water heater must be a new natural gas qualifying, high-efficiency unit. Both the traditional tank heater or the newer tankless models are eligible. The heater can be purchased from either a participating contractor or retailer. The water heater must be purchased and installed by December 31, 2009.
The program web site is: http://www.xcelenergy.com/Residential/Programs_Resources/HeatingandCoolingRebates/Pages/WaterHeaterRebates.aspx
The application form can be printed at this site: http://www.xcelenergy.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/docs/css-1961.pdf

Would like to know what rebates are for new gas furnaces, installed 2009. What are the requirements, how do I get forms to fill out, and deadlines. Thanks
Does the Denver area offer any tax credit or rebate for installing a whole house humidifier?
Also, I want to know the difference between a Bypass Humidifier and Fan-Powered Humidifier. Which one is better for a dry climate?
Hi Marsha and A.B.
Here is the current link for the Heating Rebate program at the Xcel website. http://www.xcelenergy.com/Colorado/Residential/Programs_Resources/HeatingandCoolingRebates/Pages/HeatingRebates.aspx
A.B, it does not look like whole house humidifiers are included in either the Heating or Cooling Rebate programs. I would be happy to refer you to a HVAC professional for more information concerning the advantages of the Bypass or Fan-Powered humidifiers.

Does Xcel provide rebates on hot water heaters if qualified unit per “The water heater must be a new natural gas qualifying, high-efficiency unit.” if purchased in 2008? Thank you.
Carolyn, the current program only lists the 2010 eligibility dates. I would recommend you contact Xcel directly regarding your 2008 replacement. Based on the time lines in the current program, you may have missed the application deadline.
