Web 2.0…What’s in it for me?

April 3, 2008 by · 4 Comments

Well I’m glad you finally asked!  First, if you don’t know what the heck any of this means, I’ve included a great Video explanation.

Now, what it means for you, the consumer, is huge.  As a matter of fact, I don’t think anyone really knows what the end result will become, but what I do know is this;  The consumer will have much more control over the process!  There are many Real Estate industry professionals blogging about everything Real Estate.  The ultimate result will be industry processes becoming transparant.

Information is no longer being held under lock and key by the real estate industry.  Right from your living room you can browse through almost every property on the market, and find local experts to help guide you.  As a matter of fact, with a quick search on Google,  you can learn about anything you ever wanted to know about properties for sale in your area, the mechanics of the Real Estate transaction, and the processes therein.

Blog Sites are a much more conversational media.  You no longer have to go to a static Real Estate company website, navigate through all the self-promotion, and hope to find an answer, that probably isn’t there.   Now, you can read through categorized information, and if you have questions, you can simply leave a comment and ask!  What a novel idea, get the information you are looking for, not the fluff an agent wants to tell you!

These blog sites also give the consumer, YOU, the ability to “get a feel” for the agent you are considering to hire.  It is very unlikely, I’d say impossible, for an agent to write/blog very much, without showing some personality.  This personality can go a long way in helping you to make your choice of which agent should represent you.  You can feel like you know them, before you meet them.

Those are some pretty big beni’s of the “New” internet!  I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you’re using the internet to help you prepare for a future home sale or purchase!  (Remember the conversational point above?)

Lastly, check back for a future post on why Social Networking will make your life better, and your Real Estate transaction easier!

  1. The internet is changing! It’s becoming more and more personal service oriented, which is interesting, because the rest of the world is becoming less and less service oriented. A great trend for Realtors to capitalize because their business is so relationship oriented.
